turtleback & rainbow falls | North Carolina

You can't go to the Carolinas without visiting a waterfall. And if you do, shame on you. Or, hopefully you found a beach or something. We've been to this one once before, but it was too cold to get into the water. This time, we took full advantage of the summer heat, climbed up the rocks and slid right down this natural water slide. It was so much fun, I could have stayed there all day going again and again.
I wish these photos were better, but I was battling quite a bit of humidity and my camera was a little foggy on top of the weird lighting. Bear with me through these bad photos, and I'll be back with prettier ones tomorrow. For now, these are for the memories.
The waterfalls we visited are in Nantahala National Forest. They do a great job of keeping up with everything, and the trail was very nice.  It was a good hike to get to the falls, it was just challenging enough, and even our 4 year old niece was able to do the hike. It definitely made the stop at the waterfall a lot nicer. If you're wanting to visit, here's more information on Turtleback Falls.
Jordan going over the falls for the first time. I have a video of him sliding down the rock at the bottom of this post.
and then me! It was so much fun, I immediately climbed right back up to go again.
Jordan and the guys.
These photos didn't turn out well, but I still love them. Ruby drinking out of her uncle's camelback unbeknownst of him, watching people sliding down the falls, her and her papa (with a little glimpse of the tshirts i made for the trip!)
Grandma and all of her littles! Thanks for staying back so we could have some fun!
We stayed back and explored rainbow falls as the rest of the family hiked back. Turtleback Falls flows into Rainbow Falls, and is just a short hike down. Which is kind of scary, because if you kept flowing down the river (where we were sliding down the falls and swimming) you could end up going down this very big waterfall.
You can tell in these photos that Jordan is having the time of his life. He loves waterfalls and it was fun to see him showing Ruby. She was a little tired and did not share the same sentiments for the waterfall.
Next time we visit these waterfalls (and there will be a next time) we are going to pack a lunch and camp out here at rainbow falls.
