spring refresh: the living room
Tuesday, April 12, 2016
As promised, here's our spring update of our living room. I love having a fireplace, because it's so easy to change with the seasons. I got this mirror and didn't think that it would work, because it was smaller than I wanted.
After I took down the Christmas decorations, I was so ready for a completely different look. You can see a little snippet of what it looked like before in this instagram photo.
Once I took everything down I realized it didn't look as small. Jordan got me this orchid for valentine's day and the height of it helps to fill the space.
Most of the time these candles in the fireplace live up on the mantel. Ruby has a thing with candle wax, she loves to eat it. So, I try to avoid her eating the candle wax. Anyone have any ideas of some way I could decorate this empty space so that it is baby friendly?
Ok, about this garland. It's beautiful isn't it? and it took maybe 5 minutes to make. And I found all of the ivy in our backyard.
I tied it together with some baker's twine, because I didn't have any florist wire. I thought I was a genius. I haven't seen anyone use fresh ivy for garland, albeit, I was a little nervous. But, I stayed optimistic and thought this would be the next thing.
I made it in the morning this past Sunday and left for church for a few hours and it was already a little wilted. I was so sad.
I kept it up until yesterday and it was pretty wilted. I still may make it again for Ruby's birthday party right before, just because it was super easy and best of all, free! I think it would be pretty with some flowers too.
These flowers dry so well. The name is not coming to mind right now, but we had them at our wedding, and had bouquets that lasted for years!
I will never stop decorating with books.
Have you updated your mantel recently?
p.s. the gold candle on my mantel is one of my favorites, it smells just like this anthropologie candle (that's definitely my favorite)
