we made s'mores the other night, and they were so good! we first attempted to make them with candles, but we got a little impatient and decided to make a little fire in are charcoal grill, it worked out nicely!
the best end of summer soup...
the farmer's market in bloomington is awesome, we typically have to walk around a few times before we decide on what we want. this time jordan let me replace the rosemary plant that died over the summer. we even got some lavender! it smells so good. and there were peaches galor, so we had to get some. the end of summer/beginning of fall is by far my favorite time to go to the market. we are making this a saturday tradition along with watching this old house, a show that seemed to be on every saturday at my house growing up.
this was from one of our first meals in the new apartment, i am obviously behind on posting all of the pictures i have taken (this was over a month ago). we had this potato and onion tart and it was delicious. the sweet caramelized onions and gruyere, yum. one of my favorite things about jordan is that he loves to cook as much as i do, it makes the kitchen a lot more fun. as you can see he is the expert chopper.
the idea for this came from this broken globe i found in my classroom last year. it seemed every day a student would try to put it together. it became a little annoying and i thought i could put it to some use, so instead of tossing it, i took it home with me. i originally thought it would be an awesome popcorn bowl except there was a hole in the bottom. i held onto it, and one day jordan and i were shopping at urban outfitters and we found this cord kit for only 2 dollars! sale was even 50 percent off, awesome. so i set off with my 2 cord kits thinking of globe pendant lights... and my parents were coming over in a couple weekends, i knew my dad would be able to help with this project.
here is what you need:
+ a large globe in halves
+ cord kit
(i mentioned one above, there also might
be easier ones to use, i'll explain later)
+ screwdriver
+ paperclip
step one,
+ use screwdriver take apart the light socket thing so that the cord can fit through the globe
+ for this kit the wires had a spring system that held them in,
use the paperclip and press down on the wire and it should come out easy
(the first time we tried just pulling out the wire, and it just broke off... if this happens be extremely careful
in putting it back together, you will have to use electrical tape to put the wires back)
+ MAKE NOTE OF EACH WIRES PLACEMENT!!!
note: electricity isn't something to mess with, be very careful or have your dad do it, which is what i did. as i mentioned
earlier, you might be able to find a cord kit that would better fit your globe so that you don't have to take it all apart
step two,
+ pull cord through
+ connect wires back to original place and make sure they are secure
step three,
+ now put everything together!
step four,
+ test it out!
if it works, make sure to screw everything in place correctly
if not, just take it apart, the wires may have a poor connection, just tinker with them if until it works
step five,
+ screw in hook that came with kit
+ hang up globe at desired length and you're all done!
we put the lights up in our loft to make it a little cozier. we are using this space a lot more now that we have a little reading nook. this was such a fun and easy project, i hope that you find a broken globe soon! also, a big thanks to dad for helping me with this, i'll update soon on the other projects we worked on that weekend!
jordan managed to capture this great shot on my iphone while riding his bike. he's crazy. crazy cool.
we originally went to our favorite restaurant in bloomington, falafels, but it was still closed for summer. we got lucky that they were giving out food in the park!
since i don't eat meat, i got a hotdog for jordan. my only stipulation was that i got to choose the condiments.of course, i put on everything. and jordan was pretty happy...

the first week back in bloomington, it felt like fall. i was so happy to be in my patagonia, pants and loafers. unfortunately it has not been that way since then, but i'm hoping it will come soon. on our way home we saw this deer family--so cute.
after a long time away, it felt good to be back home in bloomington. i forgot how much i loved the town. brandon came down with us for a couple of days, so one evening we biked downtown to get dinner. (this was brandon's first time on a bike after he broke his leg on one earlier in the spring-- big deal.)
we went to dinner at the bakehouse. it was wednesday, so we enjoyed 3$ burgers...
we also enjoyed some gelato afterward...
yum!
